Sprucehill Residence
Client wishes:
provide a bright and airy room
better use of space
to correct a poorly laid out bathroom with shoddy plumbing
maintaining the four piece bathroom while increasing storage space
provide an amazing shower and bath experience
Challenges:
since the ensuite bathroom is located on the third floor of the home, the sloped roof line presented space planning challenges to provide adequate headspace
in addition to fitting in a four piece bathroom, a full size washer and dryer had to be incorporated into the design
to provide additional natural light
Solutions:
in order to provide headroom height for the vanity area, the south wall was brought forward into the bathroom giving sufficient height for both vanity, wall sconces, and mirror
two skylights were added into the space to bring more natural light and provide an indoor/outdoor feeling
one skylight centered above the new tub location and another in the shower to provide additional headroom
custom millwork was designed surrounding washer and dryer to provide more storage within the sloped roof line
existing bathtub was relocated from centre of bathroom for better flow and use of space
Features:
to exemplify the height of the space, the roof trusses were exposed and cladded in white oak veneer
Wall niches were tiled with stone mosaics and added in both shower and tub area
Mixed matte and semi-polished porcelain tiles give the bathroom a natural and soothing atmosphere
